Welcome to Webelos!
The Webelos Scout program prepares boys who have completed third grade (or are age 10) but have not yet completed fifth grade (or reached age 11 1/2) to learn about Boy Scouting and successfully bridge into a Boy Scout Troop. Pronounced "WEE-buh-los", the word "Webelos" means WE'll BE LOyal Scouts. After earning the Bobcat badge, a boy may earn the Webelos rank and Arrow of Light Award. The average time for a boy to earn the Webelos rank and the Arrow of Light award is 18 months. Shorter Webelos Scout programs are available for boys who start in fifth grade so they can earn their Webelos rank and the Arrow of Light award in as little as six months.
The Webelos program is more challenging than the Tiger, Wolf, and Bear programs for younger Cub Scouts. Webelos Scouts take part in Cub Scout pack meetings and activities as well as Webelos patrol meetings, activities, and outdoor fun. Webelos Scouts can earn Webelos Activity Badges and Belt Loops and Pins at any time but there are specific ones that must be earned as a Webelos Scout. The Webelos uniform has six parts and they are described below.
The Official Webelos Uniform
The Webelos uniform has six required parts:
- Cap - The offical Webelos cap must be worn.
- Neckerchief and Slide - The neckerchief is triangular and plaid with the Webelos emblem. The Webelos woggle or a custom woggle made by the members of the Patrol will be worn with the neckerchief.
- Shirt - The official long- or short-sleeve shirt is to be worn and it can be blue or tan for Webelos Scouts. The tan shirt is used in Boy Scouts.
- Pants/Shorts - Official, pressed with no cuffs. If you wear the blue pants then you must wear them with the blue shirt. If you wear the olive pants then you must wear them with the tan shirt.
- Belt - The official blue web belt is to be worn with the blue uniform. Webelos Scouts wearing the optional tan uniform may wear either the blue belt and Webelos buckle or olive belt and Webelos buckle. Please note that the Cub Scout belt loops are worn only on the blue belt.
- Socks - Dark blue official socks with gold tops for Cub Scouts. Webelos Scouts wearing optional olive/tan uniform wear official Boy Scout olive socks
NOTE: Most of the Webelos will still wear the blue uniform as it is an accepted practice. Many of the Webelos II may opt to wear the tan uniform as it is the Boy Scout uniform they will eventually wear after they cross over into Boy Scouts.
When to Wear the Uniform
Wear your uniform

The Meaning of the Webelos Badge
The Webelos badge has a Webelos emblem on it, which contains a blue W, the diamond-shaped badge also has the word Webelos and a small Scout badge at the bottom. Whichever option you choose, your Webelos badge shows that you are on the Webelos trail that leads from Cub Scouting to Boy Scouting.
